Aftermath is a single-channel video, which is a personal response to the 9/11 tragedy. Like so many others, I was in a state of shock after seeing the images of the planes crashing and buildings crumbling. I spent a lot of time in the woods, looking within myself for solace and re-evaluating life?s priorities. The video begins with an isolated moment in the forest, when all is still except for a single leaf. The layered sound builds tension, as the pitch increases in time to the frenzied movement of the leaf. Subtly underlying the sounds of insects, and wind are echoes of devastation?the rumblings of an earthquake and planes crashing. The abstract imagery symbolizes the chaos and subsequent survival of the individual and the collective whole of the nation.
