I suppose we've arrived at a point with our technology that one can assume an accomplished cinematic look is achievable simply by turning on the latest digital camera and the latest digital editing program. But cinema requires understanding. As Godard said, putting shots together - - that is, figuring duration, one's ideas, and the use of space - - these are moral decisions.
